1. We set no cookies

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website, usually so that the site can recognise your browser on a later visit. This website places none — not for analytics, not for advertising, not for preferences, and not for any other purpose.

We also do not use the other common techniques for storing information on your device or recognising you across visits: no local storage, no session storage, no tracking pixels, no device fingerprinting, and no third-party advertising or social media tags.

This is why you are not being shown a cookie consent banner. There is nothing to consent to. Where a website sets no cookies beyond those strictly necessary to deliver a service the user has requested, no consent is required.

2. Analytics, without cookies

We do measure how many people visit the site, using Ahrefs Web Analytics. It is deliberately chosen because it works without cookies: it sets none, stores no persistent identifier on your device, and does not follow individuals between websites, devices or sessions.

What it produces is aggregate — how many visits a page received, where visitors arrived from, roughly which country — rather than a record of what any particular person did. We cannot identify you from it, and neither builds nor buys a profile of you.

If you would rather not be counted, blocking requests to analytics.ahrefs.com excludes you completely. The site works exactly the same either way.

3. What we do not use

For the avoidance of doubt, none of the following is present on this website:

  • Google Analytics or any other cookie-based analytics platform
  • Advertising, remarketing or conversion tracking of any kind
  • Facebook, LinkedIn, X or other social media pixels or share widgets
  • Live chat, heatmap, session recording or A/B testing tools
  • Embedded video, maps or other third-party iframes
  • Contact forms, newsletter sign-ups or user accounts

4. What does happen when you load a page

Server logs

Our hosting provider records standard server log entries when a page is requested, including the IP address making the request, the time, and the page requested. This is generated by the web server rather than stored on your device, so it is not a cookie, but it is described here for completeness. It is covered in our privacy policy.

Google Fonts

The typefaces used on this site are currently delivered from Google's font servers. Google Fonts does not set cookies. However, as a technical necessity of delivering the font files, your browser makes a request to fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, and your IP address is visible to Google as part of that request.

Together with the analytics request described above, this is one of only two connections to a third party that this website makes. If you would rather it did not happen, you can block those two domains using a browser extension or your network settings. The site will still work and remain fully readable; only the appearance of the type will change to a fallback face.

5. Controlling cookies generally

Although this site sets none, you can control cookies for all websites through your browser settings, which typically allow you to see what is stored, delete existing cookies, block them from particular sites, or block them entirely. The relevant setting is usually found under Privacy or Security in your browser's preferences.

Blocking all cookies will affect the functioning of many other websites. It will have no effect on this one.

6. If this changes

If we later introduce anything that sets cookies — analytics, for instance — we will update this page beforehand and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before any non-essential cookie is set. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
